Batshit insane is a loud, hyperbolic way to say someone is completely crazy, reckless, or operating with zero fear and even less common sense. People also shorten it to just batshit when the madness is already obvious. It is rude, casual, and built for moments when normal words feel too polite for the chaos in front of you.

Where it comes from
It’s been around in American English since the mid 1900s. Batshit started as a crude literal word for bat droppings, then flipped into slang for something wildly crazy or nonsense. Adding insane turns the volume all the way up, so it lands extra rude, extra chaotic, and deliberately over the top.
