What it means

A pick-me girl is a girl who tries way too hard to look different from other women so she gets picked, usually by men. She'll do the whole I'm not like other girls routine, act like other women are shallow or dramatic, and make herself seem chill, low-maintenance, or one of the lads. It's usually said as a drag, because the whole vibe is chasing approval by putting other women down.

Usage examples

"She's such a pick-me girl, always going on about how she's not into drama like the rest of us."
"Bragging that you never eat much in front of the guys is peak pick-me girl behaviour."
"Every time the lads are around she starts banging on about how girls are too much drama. Proper pick-me girl energy."
"Calling yourself low-maintenance every five minutes so men clap for you is such pick-me girl behaviour."

Got something to say?

Edit, fix or tell us something. We review it and, if it is true, you will see it applied with your name on it.

Where it comes from

It comes from the phrase pick me, meaning choose me. The label grew online in the 2010s, especially on social media, for women performing this please pick me energy in front of men. The girl part just pins it to that specific stereotype.
