"Lit. When something or someone is out of this world or top tier, it is a synonym of another similar slang word, fire. Example, yo, that party was lit. They really had it going until 2am and the music was awesome."

What it means

Means something is really good, exciting, or full of energy right now. You use it for parties, songs, fits, games, whole nights, whatever's popping off and feeling alive. It's close to fire, but lit leans more into the vibe being up, buzzing, and fully switched on.

Usage examples

"That block party was lit, the DJ kept switching eras, everybody stayed outside, and even the quiet bull from upstairs started dancing."
"The rooftop party was lit, the playlist never dipped, and we danced until the sun came up over the rooftops."
"Yo, that house party got lit real fast once the aux stopped playing sad-boy tracks."
"Her birthday link-up was lit, good food, loud laughs, and not one dead corner in the room."
"That set was lit, no skips, no dead spots, just banger after banger till everybody lost the plot."

Where it comes from

Lit comes from the older sense of being lit up, then in Black English it grew into slang for being intoxicated or charged with energy. By the 20th century you hear it around jazz and later hip-hop, and from there it spread into mainstream slang for anything that feels lively, exciting, and fully popping off.
