What it means
In gaming and competitive talk, throwing is when you've basically got the win in your pocket and then choke it away with dumb mistakes, bad decisions, or full-on panic. It's not just losing. It's handing over a game you should've closed out.

Where it comes from
It comes from the older verb phrase throw a game or throw a match, used in sports for deliberately losing or giving the result away. Gaming loosened that meaning up, so now throwing often just means choking hard or making brain-melting plays that hand over a win, even when nobody meant to do it.
