"Throwing, meaning to mess up and end up losing when you were winning or about to win. I can't fucking believe you dude. I can't fucking- I'M SORRY OKAY? WE WERE ONE POINT AWAY! HOW DO YOU FUCKING MESS UP I'M SORRY I THREW OKAY I THREW THE GAME I'M SORRY I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU WANT FROM ME."
What it means
In gaming and competitive talk, throwing is when you've basically got the win in your pocket and then choke it away with dumb mistakes, bad decisions, or full-on panic. It's not just losing. It's handing over a game you should've closed out.
Usage examples
"We were one point away and then he messed up the final play and threw the game."
"We were three goals up with ten minutes left, then started showing off and conceded twice, classic throwing when the win was already ours."
"We had them boxed in and then Jake pushed solo for no reason, absolute throwing."
"Nah, that's a throw and you know it, we were 5-1 up and started playing like clowns."
"Bro we had full map control and you peeked alone for TikTok glory, that's straight throwing."
Where it comes from
It comes from the older verb phrase throw a game or throw a match, used in sports for deliberately losing or giving the result away. Gaming loosened that meaning up, so now throwing often just means choking hard or making brain-melting plays that hand over a win, even when nobody meant to do it.
