"Manifesting basically means kind of like speaking something into existence, hoping something happens. I know people say like you put it into the universe, like you speak it out, put it into the universe and it comes back to you, all that stuff. Not many people truly believe it. It's just something you hope to happen or you wish could happen. An example would be, oh my god, the job market is literally horrible. Manifesting any type of job at this point."

What it means

To manifest something is to keep putting energy on it by picturing it, saying it out loud, and acting like it's already lining up for you. People use it half seriously, half with a wink, for anything from dream jobs to sunny weekends.

Usage examples

"I am manifesting a sunny weekend, do not jinx it."
"She manifested that job for months and finally got it."
"I'm manifesting an email saying I've got the flat, so everybody stay cute and quiet."
"He's been manifesting festival tickets all week and somehow it actually worked."

Where it comes from

The word itself is older and comes from manifest meaning to make something clear or visible. Its current slangy self-help use took off in online wellness and spirituality spaces in the 2010s, where manifesting became the idea of pulling a desired outcome toward you through focus, affirmations, and belief.
