"Twin is basically, you know, your close friend, someone who maybe resembles you a lot, you have a lot in common with, just like a very close friend. You know, you're like twins, but obviously you're not, so twin. An example would be, oh my god, I just saw this post on my FYP right now. You're literally twin."

What it means

Calling your close friend twin is the top tier of besthood, saying you two are so in sync you might as well be twins. Often just twin on its own as a hype-filled greeting.

Usage examples

"Twin, you will not believe what just happened."
"Me and my twin showed up in the exact same outfit again."
"Twin, why did we both order the same thing without even talking?"
"You get it every single time, twin."

Where it comes from

It comes straight from the literal word twin. In Black American slang and online speech, it got stretched into an affectionate way to call a very close friend, especially someone who feels on your wavelength. From there it spread hard on social media as both a nickname and a hypey greeting.
