Street voices
"Running a fade. Meaning to physically fight someone. Alright, alright, we got a problem here or what? Oh yeah, we got a problem here, alright. Oh, so we have a problem here. Alright, we can run a fade right here, right now, if you want. Okay, tough guy, let's go."
What it means
Means challenging someone to a one on one fight, or actually stepping up to throw hands. You hear it when somebody's talking reckless, tempers are bubbling, and one person wants to see if the other's really about it. In US street slang, run a fade has long meant squaring up for a fight.
Usage examples
"He kept mouthing off outside the store, then said we could run a fade right there in the parking lot."
"Two guys at the corner store kept shoving each other and shouting about running a fade, until the owner stepped out with a broom and a face that said go home."
"He texted his roommate at 2 am saying he was ready to run a fade over the unwashed dishes, then fell asleep on the couch and forgot all about it."
"He kept talking spicy online, then pulled up to the gas station asking who was really trying to run a fade."
"Boy got bumped once at the party and started pacing around like he was about to run a fade over nothing."
