What it means
A parasocial relationship is the one-sided bond you build with someone who has no idea you exist, like a streamer, a podcaster or a celeb. You feel like they're your mate because you watch them daily, but it only runs one way. Online it's half a real concept, half a way to tease someone for being too attached to a creator.

Where it comes from
The term came from media sociology. Horton and Wohl introduced parasocial interaction in 1956 to describe that weirdly intimate bond audiences can feel with performers who don't actually know them. It stayed mostly academic for years, then social media, streamers and influencer culture shoved it into everyday internet chat.
