"Yap, or to yap. It's just talking excessively. It could be talking nonsense, or it could be something that's actually, you know, interesting or meaningful, but if you put a lot of words, say a lot of stuff, it just becomes yap. An example would be, man, come on, you've talked about this topic like a million times. Can you just stop yapping already?"

What it means

Yap means talking way too much, usually with a bit of an eye-roll attached. It can be total nonsense, but it also gets used when someone is making real points and still keeps going long after everybody got it. Calling something yap or saying someone's yapping is mildly rude, funny, and very online.

Usage examples

"Bro, you've been yapping about that same situationship for an hour straight, either text her or let the group chat breathe for once."
"I'm not saying he's wrong, I'm saying he turned one answer into a whole yap session."
"Girl, I asked for the short version and you gave me deluxe yap with bonus chapters."
"He's got one decent point, but by minute ten it stopped being a take and turned into pure yap."
"Nah, don't ask her for the quick recap unless you're ready for advanced yapping with side quests."

Where it comes from

It comes from yap, the high, snappy bark linked with small dogs. English has used it for noisy or trivial talk since the 1800s. Online slang later gave it fresh juice, especially in forms like yapping and jokes about being a professional yapper on TikTok and socials.
