Street voices
"Core memory is basically an event or something that happened that was just really memorable, something you won't forget, basically kind of like ingrained into your brain, ingrained into like the core of your brain, hence core memory. An example would be, oh my god, that hike at Niagara Falls was beautiful. I would never forget how everything looked, how, you know, the water just like fell down into like the waterfall. It was such a core memory."
What it means
A core memory is one of those moments that gets branded into your brain and never really leaves. People use it for a big-feeling experience that was gorgeous, chaotic, hilarious, emotional, or just weirdly perfect, the kind of thing you bring up years later like it happened yesterday.
Usage examples
"That midnight drive with the windows down and chips on the dashboard was such a core memory, we still talk about it constantly."
"When the whole group started scream-singing in the rain outside the pub, yeah, that became a core memory instantly."
"My nan teaching me to make dumplings at 2 a.m. after the wedding was such a core memory, I'm never shutting up about it."
