"my roman empire is basically something you have thought about or talked about quite a lot it could be literally anything like um a recent tv show you watched or a movie or a book you read or somewhere you've been or an experience anything can be your roman empire you know how like basically the Roman Empire was like critical in history this thing is critical in your life or to you in that moment an example would be oh my god i can't stop watching la la land it's my roman empire"
What it means
Your Roman Empire is the random topic you think about way more often than anyone would expect. It started as a literal question to men about the actual Roman Empire, then became shorthand for anyone's oddly frequent mental obsession, from a football match in 2008 to how ships float.
Usage examples
"That one embarrassing email from 2019 is my Roman Empire, it just pops into my head."
"Ask him about offside rules, it is his entire Roman Empire."
"Her Roman Empire is that one year One Direction went on hiatus, she circles back to it every other week."
"Not gonna lie, parking disasters are my Roman Empire. I replay that crooked bay park from 2021 like it's a documentary."

Where it comes from
This comes from a 2023 social media trend where women asked men how often they think about the actual Roman Empire, and loads of them said way more often than expected. That joke snowballed fast, and Roman Empire turned into shorthand for any weirdly recurring personal obsession.
