What it means
A dosser is a lazy, useless hanger-on who dodges work, chores, and any whiff of effort while everyone else gets on with it. They sponge food, kip on your sofa, mysteriously vanish when bills or rounds come up, then act like they're somehow doing you a favour by existing in your space.

Where it comes from
Dosser comes from British doss, a word tied to bunking down for the night, especially in cheap lodging houses or rough sleeping circles. By the late 1800s, dosser meant someone connected with those doss houses. Later it drifted into a wider insult for a lazy sod, a skiver, or a shameless sponge.
