What it means
To completely lose your temper, blow your top, go absolutely spare. The nut is your head, and doing it is the moment all the steam comes whistling out at once. Very British, the kind of explosion that flares up over a parking ticket or a late train, loud and short-lived.
Usage examples
"Dad did his nut when he saw the dent in the car, you could hear him three streets away."
"Dad's going to do his nut when he sees the dent in the car."
"She did her nut when the delivery turned up smashed for the third time."
