What it means
Spending a whole day, or several, horizontal in bed doing absolutely nothing, snacks and screens within reach, as deliberate recharge or gentle avoidance. A bed rot Sunday is a guilt-free duvet day. Framed as self-care by some, as glorified hiding by others.

Where it comes from
From bed plus rot, the image of lying still so long you might as well be going mouldy. It spread as a name for the cosy do-nothing duvet day.
