What it means
Bed-rotting is spending hours or whole days horizontal in bed, scrolling, snacking and doing absolutely nothing on purpose, sold to yourself as rest and self-care. It is restorative in small doses and a slippery slope in large ones.

Where it comes from
It’s a very recent internet phrase built from bed and rotting, using rot in a jokey, exaggerated way for lying in bed all day doing nothing. It took off online in Gen Z spaces around burnout, low-energy days, and the blurry line between genuine rest and checked-out avoidance.
