What it means
The ick is that sudden wave of revulsion toward someone you were into, set off by some tiny thing, the way they chew, a cringe text, how they run for the bus. Nothing rational about it, but once the ick hits, the attraction just dies on the spot.
Usage examples
"Everything was going great until he baby-talked to the dog in public, and bam, the ick arrived and never left."
"She got the ick the second he tried to pay with a coupon on the first date and argued about it with the waiter."
"I liked him until he called the waiter chief and did a little finger gun. Instant ick, couldn’t look at him the same after that."
"I was fully into him till he licked his thumb to wipe my cheek and yeah, that was the ick right there."
"She fancied him for weeks, then watched him do a sexy wink at the bartender and the ick shut the whole operation down."

Where it comes from
It was floating around in British dating chat before TV got its claws on it, but Love Island helped launch it everywhere in the late 2010s. Once contestants kept saying they'd got the ick, it spread hard through memes, TikTok, group chats, and post-date gossip.
