Street voices
"Ick. Spelt I-C-K. This is something that someone can do that can turn you off. This is basically more in like the romantic setting. So, an example could be, oh my God, so we were swimming and then I dove down under the pool to just, you know, take a dive. And I saw him trying to stay afloat. His legs were wobbling all weird. Such an ick."
What it means
An ick is that sudden, irrational flash of disgust that kills your attraction to someone over the smallest thing, the way they chew, a cringe text, and suddenly you are done. Once you catch the ick there is no coming back.
Usage examples
"He called the waiter chief and I caught the ick on the spot."
"I liked her until she texted in all caps, instant ick."
"She was fit till I watched him clap when the plane landed. Full ick."
"I can't explain it, but the way she said doggo gave me the ick instantly."
Got something to say?
Edit, fix or tell us something. We review it and, if it is true, you will see it applied with your name on it.
Where it comes from
It comes from the old English exclamation ick, the kind of thing you say when something feels gross or makes your skin crawl. Online dating talk, especially in the UK and then wider social media, gave it a sharper job title: that tiny turn-off that suddenly nukes attraction.
