"For real, or as denoted by text FRFR, that's for real for real. Basically just means yeah, like seriously or for sure. Can be used synonymous to deadass. An example would be a person saying, yo, I just secured some VIP tickets. Another person would be like, for real? And then that person would go, for real."

"For real. A phrase used to indicate that someone is being serious. Dude, I've got some bad news. Yeah, what's up, man? My cat just got mauled by the neighbor's dog. Oh my God, are you for real? Yes, I am. I'm so fucked up, dude."

What it means

Used when you want to show you're being serious, or when you need to check if somebody else is. It can mean no joke, seriously, or you actually mean that, depending on how it's said. People also throw it back as a quick reaction when news sounds wild, messed up, or too good to trust right away.

Usage examples

"Dude, I’ve got some bad news. What’s up? My cat just got mauled by the neighbor’s dog. Oh my God, are you for real? Yeah, I am. I’m completely messed up."
"She told me the concert tickets were completely free, and I had to ask twice, for real, before I actually believed her."
"You got us backstage passes for tonight? For real?"
"Nah, I'm for real, he quit on the spot and walked straight out."
"You paid off your loans already? For real? Man, that's superhero timing."

Got something to say?

Edit, fix or tell us something. We review it and, if it is true, you will see it applied with your name on it.

Where it comes from

Trimmed from for real this time, a plain promise that you are not joking. It hardened into both a question, asking is that true, and a stamp swearing that it is.
