"A canon event is, you know, like an important life moment that happened to you or happened to someone else. That'll basically be their canon event. Maybe it could, you know, change something, you know, for the rest of the course of their life, etc. An example would be, failing math was a canon event."
What it means
A canon event is one of those painfully necessary life moments you just have to eat and survive. Usually a bit cringe, usually a mess, but it helps make you who you are. If your mate's heading straight for one, sometimes you just have to sit there and let the plot cook.
Usage examples
"Getting your heart broken at sixteen is a classic canon event."
"I could not warn her, it was a canon event."
"Getting ghosted by someone you swore was your soulmate is such a canon event."
"Nah, don't stop him from getting that awful fringe. It's a canon event."

Edit, fix or tell us something. We review it and, if it is true, you will see it applied with your name on it.
Where it comes from
It comes from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, where a canon event is a fixed moment in a Spider-Person's story that can't be stopped without messing up the timeline. Online, people ran with it and started using it for those unavoidable life lessons and character-building disasters everybody seems doomed to collect.
