Where it comes from
Kiff comes through South African usage from Afrikaans kief, which in turn traces back to Arabic kayf or kif, a word tied to pleasure, enjoyment, and feeling good. In South African English it drifted away from that older sense and settled into a broad everyday word for anything excellent or cool.
