"Mos Def is an abbreviation of most definitely. It is used when you are in total agreement with someone. It can also be used instead of the word yes. For example, did you enjoy the show last night? Mos Def, it was awesome."
What it means
A slick clipped way to say most definitely. It means a strong yes, full agreement, or I'm completely with you on that. People drop it when plain yes feels too flat and they want the reply to hit with a bit more swagger and certainty.
Usage examples
"You coming to the cookout tonight? Mos Def, I already grabbed my hoodie and texted my cousin to save me a plate."
"Are you in for the road trip if we split the petrol three ways? Mos def, I will clear my whole weekend for it."
"You tryna run that back tomorrow? Mos Def, today's round was pure chaos and I need my get-back."
"Think she'll come through if we start late? Mos def, just text her when the music's on and she's there."
"You still down to hit that rooftop thing after work? Mos Def, just send me the pin and I'm sliding."
Got something to say?
Edit, fix or tell us something. We review it and, if it is true, you will see it applied with your name on it.
Where it comes from
It started as a clipped spoken version of most definitely in Black American English, then got extra visibility because Mos Def used it as his stage name. The slang meaning stayed the same though: a smooth, confident yes that says you're fully on board and not halfway about it.
