What it means
Playful, gloriously wonky accounting used to justify spending. If you pay cash it is basically free, returning one thing means the other was a saving, and anything under a fiver does not count. Tongue-in-cheek logic that makes any treat sound sensible.
Usage examples
"I paid in cash so the shoes were basically free, girl math."
"The concert ticket was months ago so tonight is free, flawless girl math."
"I got paid this week and used a gift card, so the jacket was basically emotionally free. That's girl math."
"If I return the jeans, I'm actually up forty quid, so grabbing the top is just girl math doing her thing."
Where it comes from
The phrase took off online in 2023, especially on TikTok, where people posted jokey videos about the wildly convenient logic they use to justify spending. It wasn't a serious maths term before that. The label stuck because it neatly packaged a very familiar bit of cheeky self-justification into a meme.
