What it means
To suddenly get fired, dropped, dumped, or kicked out, usually with zero warning and no chance to argue your case. It’s got that guillotine vibe, like someone’s just cleanly cut you off and moved on. Most common for jobs, football squads, and telly shows that get cancelled, but you’ll hear it for relationships too.
Usage examples
"Dave rocked up to the Teams call thinking it was a pay rise, then he got the chop. Didn’t even finish his brew before HR disappeared."
"Half the marketing team got the chop on Friday, no warning, just an email and a cardboard box."
"His favourite show got the chop after one season, ended on a cliffhanger that'll never be resolved."
