What it means

Short for session. A sesh is a long hangout that grows legs and refuses to go home, usually with drinks, smokes, tunes, games, or some combo of the lot. It starts as a quick one and then suddenly it's 3am, someone's suggesting afters, and everybody's still somehow fully committed.

Usage examples

"We said one pint after work, turned into a proper sesh, karaoke, kebab, home at four and now I'm welded to the sofa."
"Quick after work pint turned into a full sesh, we rolled out at closing and somehow ended up at a mate’s kitchen until sunrise."
"Can’t do a big one tonight, last sesh wrecked me for two days and I’ve got my nephew’s birthday tomorrow."
"Thought we were just going for two at the local, then Liam said afters and suddenly it was a proper sesh till birdsong."
"I can't do another sesh this weekend, mate, my bank app still looks traumatised from the last one."

Where it comes from

It’s a clipped form of session, and that bit’s well established in British and Irish English. The slang use took root around drinking, smoking and drawn out social plans, where a supposedly quick stop turns into a full night mission. From there, sesh spread wider and now covers any long, committed hangout.
