Where it comes from
Wahala comes from Yoruba wàhálà, meaning trouble or bother. It travelled hard through Nigerian Pidgin and everyday Nigerian English, where it became one of those gold-pocket words you can drop for anything from minor stress to proper chaos. Today it's one of the most recognisable Nigerian slang staples around.
