What it means

Dope is a classic way to say something’s seriously cool, impressive, or just hitting right. You can use it for clothes, music, art, places, or people. It’s casual, big-up energy without sounding too formal. Just watch the context, since dope still also means drugs, and that older meaning never fully left.

Usage examples

"Bro, that new spot is dope, and the balcony view is wild. Let's grab a slice and post up there for sunset."
"That new track is dope, I've had it on repeat since the second it dropped."
"She turned up in these dope vintage trainers and everyone wanted to know where she got them."
"That mural is dope, man. Whole block looks brighter with that thing up."
"You got the tickets? Dope, this night's about to be stupid good."

Where it comes from

In this praise sense, dope comes out of African American slang and was in use by the late 20th century for something excellent, stylish, or powerful. From there it spread wide through hip-hop, streetwear, skate culture, and everyday youth speech. The drug meaning stayed alive too, so context still does the sorting.
