What it means
Brat summer is the confident, messy, party-till-dawn energy of just doing whatever you want and not caring who's watching. Less polished perfection, more cigarettes, club nights and lime green chaos. It became a whole vibe in 2024, basically permission to be a bit of a hot mess and call it iconic.

Where it comes from
It blew up in 2024 through Charli XCX's album Brat. The record's lime-green artwork, chaotic party energy and proudly messy attitude pushed brat from album title into full-on online slang. Pretty fast, brat summer started meaning a summer lived loud, unserious and a bit gloriously unhinged.
