Street voices

Haley · United States
"Girl, you ate that up. You ate that performance up. Ate or ate that up, it means like you did something really well. You did a fantastic job. I'm American. I'm from the United States."

What it means

Means someone absolutely nailed it and made it look effortless. People use it for a performance, outfit, speech, read, interview, whatever. It's big praise with extra flair, like they did so well nobody's got anything left to pick at.

Usage examples

"Girl, you ate that presentation up, had the whole room nodding, the teacher smiling, and even the dude in the back stopped pretending he was not impressed."
"She ate that interview up, I'm not even kidding. Walked in nervous, walked out sounding like the boss already had her badge printed."
"Nah, he ate that clapback up. Had everybody in the group chat typing and deleting for ten straight minutes."
"You ate that audition up, babe. Soon as you left the room everybody else looked spiritually unemployed."
"He ate that fit up so bad I had to stare for a second and regroup my little hater soul."

Where it comes from

This comes out of Black and queer internet slang, where ate and ate that up became a punchy way to say someone did insanely well. The food image is the whole gag. They didn't just do it, they devoured it. It blew up wider through stan culture, TikTok, and reaction-heavy online talk.
