What it means
Used to say something’s genuinely brilliant, the absolute best. It’s basically a polite shortcut for the dog’s bollocks, so you can big something up without getting told off by your nan or HR. You’ll hear it about a new car, a night out, or any bit of kit that’s impressed the whole crew.
Usage examples
"That new burger gaff is the dog's. Thought it’d be bang average, but it’s lush and even Dave quit moaning for a full five minutes."
"Mate, that little campsite was the dog's, sea view, proper hot showers, and a chippy two minutes down the lane."
"Have you tried her homemade lasagne? Absolutely the dog's, I had three helpings and zero regrets."
Where it comes from
It is the polite half of the dog's bollocks, that very British way of saying something is top class. People trim off the rude bit so they can use it in front of the boss or their nan, and the dog's on its own still carries all the praise.
