What it means
Means to stop something in its tracks or call it off completely. You’ll hear it for plans, arguments, projects, even relationships. If someone says knock it on the head, they’re not asking for tweaks, they want it done and dusted. Handy when things are dragging, getting messy, or you just can’t be bothered carrying on.
Usage examples
"Right, can we knock this meeting on the head? I'm starving and Dave's still waffling. Let's grab a cuppa and sort it tomorrow."
"Let's knock it on the head for tonight, we have been staring at this code for six hours straight."
"They knocked the whole festival on the head when the headline act pulled out last minute."
