What it means
A proper Geordie yes with a bit of heart in it. Whey aye means yes, definitely, too right, course I will. You hear it all over Tyneside when someone's up for it, backing you, or just keeping the chat warm. Stick a man on the end and it gets even friendlier. Tone can make it cheeky, but most of the time it's pure canny reassurance.

Where it comes from
Aye has been a long-standing northern and Scots way of saying yes, and in Tyneside speech whey works as a punchy lead-in that adds warmth and emphasis. Put together, whey aye became a classic Geordie response, the kind of instant, friendly yes that people clock straight away as Newcastle talk.
