What it means
When something is slept on, it's badly underrated, overlooked by people who should know better. A slept-on album is one nobody talks about even though it goes hard, and to sleep on something is to ignore how good it is. You'll hear don't sleep on it as a nudge to give it a proper chance before it blows up.

Where it comes from
It comes from the literal idea of being asleep and missing what's right in front of you. In hip-hop and Black American slang, to sleep on a song, artist, or thing meant failing to clock how good it was. From there, slept on became the clean way to say underrated or overlooked.
