What it means

A quick, blunt way to tell someone to stop it, pack it in, or quit messing about. It also doubles as pure disbelief, like saying oh, come off it when someone’s bragging or spinning a daft tale. Same two words, different tone, and it’s usually delivered sharp enough to shut the whole conversation down.

Usage examples

"I’m telling thee, I could’ve gone pro at football. Give over, lad, tha can’t even trap a ball without falling ower."
"Give over, our kid, you've told that fishing story so many times the trout's grown a foot each year."
"Give over poking your brother and eat your tea before it goes stone cold."

Voices of the people

Theory is all well and good... but what we Magikitos really love is hearing humans in their natural flow. That's why we collect voice notes that people send us on WhatsApp, recording themselves using the expression with a real, street-level example!
