What it means

A copycat is the one who can't help imitating, the kid who suddenly wants the exact same lunchbox, the brand that launches a near-identical product the moment yours takes off, the sibling who repeats everything you say just to wind you up. It ranges from harmless flattery to shameless ripping-off, but there's always a hint of get-your-own-idea in it.

Usage examples

"Quit being a copycat and pick your own outfit for once."
"The cheaper brand is a total copycat, right down to the logo colours."
Tone
Funny Dismissive

Where it comes from

A compound of copy and cat, the cat tagged on as a playful belittling, after the way kittens copy. It's been the playground taunt for an imitator since the 1800s.

Voices of the people

Theory is all well and good... but what we Magikitos really love is hearing humans in their natural flow. That's why we collect voice notes that people send us on WhatsApp, recording themselves using the expression with a real, street-level example!
