What it means
A Nigerian Pidgin warning to stay sharp and not get fooled. If someone tells you shine your eye, they're saying wake up, pay proper attention, and don't let anybody use your head for free. It's the kind of thing friends say when a deal, a person, or a situation is looking shiny on top but somehow smelling funny underneath.
Usage examples
"That guy is all sweet talk and no action, my friend shine your eye before you give him another chance"
"Shine your eye when you sign that contract, read every line before you put pen to paper."
"My brother said shine your eye at the market, those traders will round up the price if you look lost."
"Before you send that money, shine your eye first, that whole story no balance."
"I like her, but my sister told me to shine my eye because the guy she's moving with is pure wahala."
