What it means
A beginner, especially one who is clueless or clumsy at a game or activity, said with anything from gentle teasing to real scorn. Standing in the wrong spot, asking the obvious question, dying first every round, that is noob behaviour. It has spilled well beyond gaming into everyday digs.

Where it comes from
Noob grew out of newbie in early online and gaming spaces. People clipped it down, then the spelling drifted into noob, which gave it a sharper, more mocking bite. By the late 1990s and 2000s it was everywhere in multiplayer chat, then it spilled into everyday talk for anyone looking clueless or brand new.
