What it means
Main character syndrome is when someone moves through life like the camera's on them 24/7 and everybody else is just set dressing. It's usually a dig for being self-absorbed, dramatic, or weirdly convinced their little storyline matters more than everyone else's. Sometimes people use it half-joking for confidence, but most of the time it's a side-eye label, not a compliment.

Where it comes from
It grew out of TikTok and online chat about having main character energy, where people framed their lives like a film and leaned into being the lead.
