What it means

Cheugy describes something once trendy that now reads as dated and trying a bit too hard, the slightly naff aesthetic of a few years back that the younger crowd quietly cringes at. Not awful, just firmly off-trend.

Usage examples

"Live-laugh-love signs and skinny jeans, a bit cheugy now."
"She said my font choice was cheugy and honestly she had a point."
"That wall of girlboss mugs and neon quotes is so cheugy now, I'm sorry."
"He turned up in a fedora and said it was timeless, but the whole vibe felt mad cheugy."

Where it comes from

The term was coined by Gaby Rasson around 2013 while she was a high school student in Beverly Hills. It stayed fairly niche for years, then blew up hard on TikTok in 2021 after people started using it for stuff that felt dated, try-hard, and uncool in a very specific modern way.
