It was a gray Monday in the large office of a glass building, where every day seemed like a copy of the previous one. The atmosphere was heavy, employees typed incessantly on their computers, and empty coffee cups piled up on the desks.
The boss, Don Rigoberto, was a man with a serious countenance, always focused on numbers and how to increase his company’s profits. Every day, his voice echoed over the loudspeaker: “Faster, more efficient, more money! No one smiled, no one talked, and creativity seemed to have vanished from that place.
But what no one knew was that, hidden among the plants in the office, was Bailotina, a very particular Magikita. She had purple curly hair and a skirt of leaves that moved when she walked. Bailotina loved to dance and get others to join her rhythm, especially when the atmosphere felt so tense and dull.
Bailotina had been watching the office for days and sensing the sadness of the employees. She couldn’t bear to see such seriousness and boredom. She knew she had to do something to change things, so she came up with a magical plan.
One morning, while Don Rigoberto was anxiously reviewing the sales charts, Bailotina crept up to his desk. With a small hop, she reached the office fan and, with a wave of her hands, released a cloud of shimmering dust that spread all over the place. This magic dust had the power to turn any object into something… musical!
Suddenly, computer keyboards began to sound like pianos, telephones began to emit drum beats, and even squeaky swivel chairs emitted cheerful notes as they moved. A pencil fell to the floor and began to sound like a flute. The employees, at first surprised, couldn’t help but laugh as they watched everyday objects turn into musical instruments.
Bailotina took advantage of the confusion to slip over to the office sound system and, with a small flick of her wand, caused a lively tune to begin playing over the speakers. Slowly, the employees’ feet began to move almost unnoticed. One of them took little dance steps as he continued to write, another stood up and twirled in his chair, and soon everyone in the office was moving to the music.
Even Don Rigoberto, at first perplexed, felt his right foot begin to move involuntarily to the rhythm of the melody. He tried to resist, but finally, a big smile appeared on his face and suddenly he was on top of his desk, dancing like he had never danced before!
-This is ridiculous! -he tried to exclaim, but her laughter interrupted him. He felt lighter, freer, as if all the weight of worry had vanished for a moment.
The music continued to play, and Bailotina joined the dance, leading the employees in a magical choreography that seemed to have no end. They danced together for what seemed like hours, laughing, singing, forgetting about work, numbers and goals. It was as if time had stood still, and for the first time in a long time, everyone felt truly happy.
When the music finally faded, and the sounds of keyboards and telephones returned to normal, the employees looked at each other, still laughing and panting from the effort. Don Rigoberto, his tie askew and his hair tousled, looked at his team and felt something he had never felt before: pride, not in the goals accomplished or the numbers on the rise, but in seeing his people smiling, enjoying themselves and working together with joy.
-I think…” he said, still catching his breath, “we need more moments like this. From now on, every Friday will be “Dance Friday,” and no one will work without smiling!
The employees cheered, and Bailotina, satisfied with her handiwork, slipped back into her hiding place, ready for her next adventure. She knew her magic had changed something important: an office full of pressure and anxiety had become a place where work and fun could coexist.
